I actually do that--bring along the numbers of hotel chains like Marriott, Hilton, Starwood, etc. (all of which I'm a member of) and a few airlines so if I need to rebook a flight or book a hotel in an emergency, I can. Better than sleeping in the airport.

Now that I think about it, I DO have chain hotel numbers on a telephone list I always carry with me. But I've never been stuck someplace where the airline didn't book a hotel for me - because the overnight delay was their fault. So I haven't raced to book a hotel myself. But I'm sure there will be a day.
And I HAVE called airlines while waiting in a customer service line AT the airport after a problem with a flight - and have gotten rebooked before ever reaching the counter. Before the people who were in front of me in line.
